Trainer's courses
If you have ever thought that you might want to be a dog trainer please call us for more information about our trainers courses. Our trainer's courses are structured in 3 levels and cover the following areas:
Level 1 (36 hours)
Prerequisite: Completion of the basic adult dog training program with your dog.
This is a great course for professional dog-walkers, pet sitters, shelter volunteers and other dog oriented professionals that are not dealing directly with training services. This level of training will not certify you to become a dog trainer capable of handling all dogs. It will however give you a much greater knowledge and practical ability in handling your dog and various other dogs than our basic adult dog-training program.
Areas covered and course description:
- Learning theories
- Introduction to artificial reward training
- Introduction to direct communication training
- Hands on apprenticeship with the head trainer dealing with at least 4 different dogs and 2 puppies
- Puppy raising and training
- Reading body language and dog communication
- Problem solving in dog training
- There are 3 books to read during this course
- There is a written test and a practical test
Cost: $1,950.00
Level 2 (100 hours)
Prerequisite: Level 1
This level of training will qualify you to train dogs professionally for all dogs EXCEPT dogs with aggression problems. While this methodology deals quite well with these types of dogs more extensive training and experience is necessary to deal safely with these types of dogs and your completion of this course will not be sufficient for such dogs. There is extensive homework time in this course not included in your 100 hours of instructional time. As we will not certify anyone who is not completely prepared for this work, we require all reading, homework, and practical work to be completed at a 100% competency to graduate from this course.
Areas covered and course description:
- More extensive study of all types of learning theories
- Benefits and drawbacks of artificial reward training
- Intermediate and advanced direct communication training
